Product information
A shear stud carries the horizontal shear between a steel beam and the concrete slab cast on top of it. The stud is welded through the decking by a drawn-arc process, with a ceramic ferrule holding the weld pool and keeping the atmosphere out until the metal solidifies.
Shank diameter, head diameter and welded length come from the composite design, and the ferrule is matched to the stud diameter. Where the deck is profiled, the welded length is set against the rib geometry rather than the plain slab thickness.
Typical applications
- Composite beam and slab connection
- Steel deck through-welding
- Secondary composite floor framing

Frequently asked questions
Are the ferrules included?
Yes, matched to the stud diameter and packed in the same carton, so the two cannot be separated on site.
Is a bending test required?
Normally yes — the fabricator bends a sample from the start of each welding shift. The acceptance angle is set by the project specification, not by the stud supplier.
